Alaska Airlines' route system spans more than 92 cities in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and Mexico. Some of the locations served in the carrier's namesake state include Anchorage, Adak, Barrow, Cordova, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, King Salmon, Nome, Prudhoe Bay and Sitka, several of which are inaccessible by road.
Alaska Airlines has been one of the largest carriers on the West Coast of the United States as well as to and within the state of Alaska, with strong presences in Seattle and Portland, and serving all four major airports in the San Francisco Bay Area and all five airports in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
In May 2011, SkyWest Airlines began operating six of Alaska Airlines' West Coast routes. This means that SkyWest would own and operate the aircraft, while Alaska Airlines would be responsible for marketing and selling tickets for the flights.
Alaska Airlines Baggage Policies and Services
1) Carry-on Baggage
When traveling with Alaska Airlines, you are allowed one carry-on bag plus one personal item (purse, briefcase or laptop computer). Maximum dimensions: Length - 24" (61cm) including wheels and handles, Height - 17" (43cm) and Width - 10" (25cm).
For additional carry-on items beyond the one-bag limit, for each piece $25 fee is applicable. Alaska Airlines makes sure the items are tagged and delivered to the baggage claim at your final destination.
2) Checked baggage
Even if you are travelling with Alaska Airlines but still you can be subject to another airline's bag charges. Therefore, you will have to refer to your travel confirmation to determine which airline's baggage policy applies. But, when Alaska Airlines baggage policy applies, following are the rules and fees:
Standard bag: First bag $25, second bag $25, third plus additional bags $75 (for bags that weigh up to 50 lbs and have a maximum dimension of 62" linear). During peak season, the number of bags per passenger may be reduced as per the Alaska Airlines policies.
For oversize or overweight baggage: Bags that weigh 51-100 lbs and with linear dimension of 63- 115", $75 fee is charged for each bag.
3) Baggage Claim
Alaska Airlines 20 minute baggage guarantee
Nobody wants to wait at the baggage claim and that is the reason why Alaska Airlines is committed to 20 minute baggage guarantee since 2010. If your bags are not at baggage claim within 20 minutes of your plane' arrival, Alaska Airlines offers you a $25 discount code for use on a future Alaska Airlines flight, or 2,500 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan bonus miles.
4) Special baggage
Some of the items you bring with you may carry extra regulations such as travelling with sports equipment. Alaska Airlines accepts sports equipment items as checked baggage, provided each piece is properly packed in a soft / hard-sided case designed specifically for the equipment. If your travel includes multiple airlines, different restrictions may apply.

Alaska Airlines unaccompanied minor service is available for those aged 5 - 17 years old, on domestic as well as international flights. Unaccompanied minor service fees can be paid during web check-in, at a check-in kiosk, or at any Alaska Airlines airport ticket counter.
5-7 Years: Nonstop or direct flights with $25 fee each way per child.
8-12 Years: Unless no other option is available, no connections to the last flight of the day, or layovers of more than 2 hours. $25 fee each way per child for nonstop or direct flights and $50 fee each way per child for connecting flights.
13-17 Years: Unaccompanied minor service optional and unless no other option is available, no connections to the last flight of the day, or layovers of more than 2 hours. $25 fee each way per child for nonstop or direct flights and $50 fee each way per child for connecting flights.
Unaccompanied minor service fees are waived for children who have attained MVP, MVP Gold, or Gold 75K Mileage Plan status.
Once you have handed your child over to our care, he / she will remain under supervision at all times.
